A Whirlwind Few Days

Phew! It's been a while since I was able to find a few spare minutes to log on and blog! I've been super busy, but I can't really say with any one thing in particular. It's just the life of a mom. :) Ya know, go, go, go...

This weekend Rusty had to work, so Chloe and I loaded up and headed over to my Mamaw's house. She got out of the hospital late last week, and we wanted to check up on her and see how she was feeling. GOOD NEWS! She looked great, is feeling better, and is CANCER FREE!!! God is good!  We had a great time visiting with Mamaw, Mimi, and Ashley.  Before we were about to head back home, Ashley and Chloe stumbled upon the cutest little black and white kitten. The poor thing's eyes were crusted shut.  So, Ashley and I went into rescue mode, got some wet towels, and cleaned the poor kitty's eyes up enough so she could open them. Mimi put some eye drops in the eyes, but that's about all we could do. In the long run, I'm not sure if it helped since she probably has an eye infection, but at least for the moment the poor cat probably felt a bit better.

Saturday was also the day the news came out the that Kidd Kraddick had passed away. I was pretty shocked and saddened. I've listened to him for what seems like my entire life. I feel so invested! When you listen to someone for that long, it's hard to imagine them gone. So many thoughts ran through my head: "His poor daughter!", "Maybe it's a hoax!", "What will happen to the show??", "I WILL NOT listen to Terry Dorsey!" Haha on the last one. It was a true thought, but more of a sarcastic, lighten the mood kind of thought. I will say this though.  I wouldn't know what to do and would be so lost if I didn't get to wake up with the KKITM cast, but I really don't know how they could ever go on and have the same kind of show without Kidd. He was what made that show great. Ho hum, who knows...I guess only time will tell. RIP Kidd, you will be truly missed by millions.

On Monday, Chloe had swim lessons. Yes, she's still swimming with a paci. #dontjudge  It takes true talent to swim 20 seconds, never choke on water, and never lose a paci! Here's a picture of her and her coach, Miss Kendall.

Tuesday was a day at home, and Jade came over for a short bit in the afternoon. Chloe was beside herself with excitement. She's never really had kids over to play with, so I was a bit worried about the whole "sharing toys" idea, but she did great! She was showing Jade all of her different toy bins, offered her a snack and drink (no, I'm not kidding) and had a blast playing with someone besides mommy.  In fact, when Jade left, the water works/fit/heartbreak began. She was just devastated. :(

Today, we met up with Mandi, Avery, Laura, and Selah for a little mommy/daughter play date. It was so much fun! The girls wore themselves out, us mommies got to have adult conversation time, and it has made for an easy nap time today! All in all, success! (Minus the whole ending where some kid pooped on the third floor of the playscape. THANK GOODNESS Chloe never went past the second floor!)

Speaking of naps, tomorrow I will be posting "An Ode To Naptime" Part 2. We are making headway people! :)

Till then,

Lori

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Happy Friday everyone! Today starts my new Friday series, Pic A Day Friday! So, here we go, our week in review, iPhone picture style. :)

Monday- Daddy came to Chloe's swim lessons. She was pretty stoked to show off for him.

Tuesday- This is Chloe's favorite baby. She took a dish rag from the laundry I was folding and was trying to swaddle her baby while saying, "You told (cold), baby?"

Wednesday- I went to Technopalooza (#disappointment) and Chloe went to Jakki's. She and Jenna checked out Chloe's new nap time bed Jakki made her.

Thursday- Thursday we braved the ridiculous pre-rain humidity after dinner was over and took Chloe on a walk so she could ride her new scooter. Note, I said ride, as in we push, she stands there. #backache!

Friday- Today is one of those lazy, rainy, lounge around the house and do nothing days. Hence why my little booger, who never sits still, is sitting in my lap watching Beverly Hills Chihuahua.

That about does it for this first edition of Pic A Day Friday! Have a safe and fun weekend everyone!

What's For Dinner?

Tonight I made something very odd for dinner. The recipe idea came from Rusty's Grandma Sue. It's called Cheez-It Chicken. Basically you use crushed Cheez-Its as a breading on chicken. Click here the recipe on Pinterest! I must say, it wasn't as odd tasting as it sounded. The Cheez-It's give the breading a good flavor, yet not too cheesy. Unfortunately, my meat thermometer broke last week, so I accidentally over cooked the chicken. :/ It was a bit dry in places. Oh well, it was an easy, fun recipe that Chloe could even help out with! We added some homemade mashed potatoes and green beans to the meal, and voila!

On another note, Chloe and I went to Altitude Trampoline Park today to meet up for a play date with Kelly and Kadence. It was super fun! The girls had a blast and were nice and worn out when we left to go to lunch. Thanks to Kelly also loving Chipotle, I got my Chipotle fix! :) They really need to open one closer to home. :/

Here's a few pics of the girls from today.  They are truly, irresistibly adorable! :)

Till next time,
Lori

An ode to nap time

Anyone who knows me knows that sleepy time at the Thompson house has never been a cake walk with Chloe. From the very beginning, she has been adamantly opposed to the word 'nap.' In her baby days, naps were quite often taken in mommy's arms for fear (and experience) of her waking up the minute I set her down. A good day was one where I could lay her down long enough to get a shower in.

Nowadays, nap time is even more important...and needed to avoid the terrible twos taking over! This summer I decided to sleep train Chloe. For months now, she has been successfully putting herself to sleep and napping for at least two hours at Jakki's house. Yet, at home, she's still rocked and throws fits. :\ We have been working hardcore on this all summer. Don't get me wrong, we've made HUGE strides. At the beginning of the summer, Chloe screamed and cried for over an hour. Through these tantrums she also learned to climb out of her crib. Ugh, bring on the toddler bed. Let me just tell ya, a toddler who is opposed to naps and all the freedoms that go with a big girl bed don't mix well!

Chloe still cries when I put her to bed. However, now, the minute I leave the room, she immediately drags her pillow, blanket, ele, and paci all into the hall. She lays down, whines a tiny bit, and then off to dreamland she goes. Success, right? Eh, kinda. Problem...she's in the HALL!!!! I CAN'T DO ANYTHING! I can't make a peep. Either way though, it's a tiny improvement and I'll take it.

I truly was feeling slightly successful until I got this message and picture from Jakki today.
'You are going to despise this. I laid Chloe down, she never fussed, never got up, and was asleep within 5 minutes.'

Ugh...this kiddo!!! Jakki's living my dream!

Thinking About My Mamaw

This is my crazy Mamaw. She's in the hospital right now and could use all the prayers she can get. She's a tough ole woman, but recoveries are hard the older you get. Here she is holding Chloe at Chloe's first Christmas. All day yesterday Chloe was saying, "I wan see Maawmaaw!" :) So, what did we do last night? We went to see her "maawmaaw!"

She's the best Mamaw in the whole wide world. Full of sweetness and a giving spirit. But, I didn't call her my crazy ole Mamaw for nothing. She's also has a fun loving spirit! Mamaw needs to get well so she can get back to her crazy antics. (as pictured below) ;)

We love you Mamaw!

The Thompson Trio Goes Global!

Pre mama, I was the most on top of it, ahead of the game person. Post mama, I'm lucky to get the bills paid on time. :/ That said, I am SO excited to FINALLY get this blog up and going. I've only been talking about it since March. Womp, womp. My hope is this will be a place where I can journal my family's life, make some new friends, inspire my students, but most importantly, create an archive for my precious Chloe to look back on years from now. A journal that will show her who her mommy and daddy were, how much we love her, moments we shared, and all the crazy antics she finds herself doing on a daily basis.  I do journal to her in a notebook, but I just can't seem to find the time to do it often enough. Hopefully, this will be easier to keep up with regularly.  SO, now that we have that out of the way, here is the highlight of my day today.
Ladies and gentlemen, meet the newest addition to my wedge collection, Lola Daisy. I just had to share this shoe with everyone because it is seriously SO comfortable. If you know me, you know it's a rare day that I don't wear wedges or heels, mostly wedges though. I have a not so secret love affair with wedges. I'm short, 5'3. I need all the help I can get. In flats, my legs look short and dumpy. Add a nice wedge, and I'm long and....leaner? I definitely would not call my lower extremities lean. So, anyways, back to sweet Lola Daisy. She is a fairly simple wedge. She's one of those "I can wear you with most outfits" type wedge. That is, until you slip your sweet little foot inside. Then, little Lola Daisy shows you just how special she is. Not only will your foot look great, your legs look lean, and you fall in love, but this will all happen in the most comfortable, soft wedge I have EVER worn! Seriously! I wore these to the park this morning with Chloe.  No regrets! You can find this little piece of heaven at justfab.com. If you haven't ever checked out Just Fab, you're truly missing out. It's a shoe fiend's paradise. Thank you Mandi for introducing me and fueling my passion! :)

Till tomorrow,

Lori
